Initiatives

AAUW-WA sponsors or co-sponsors various initiatives that reflect our mission to advance equity for women and girls through advocacy, education, and research.  STEM is a program that was originally begun in the Pacific Northwest to encourage middle and high school girls in Washington and Oregon to pursue an education in science, technology, education, or mathematics (STEM).  This program has now been adopted by the AAUW national association and is being partially funded by the National Science Foundation.

Another initiative recently undertaken by AAUW-WA is to develop projects that are in alignment with the Washington Women's History Project.  The emphasis of our program will be to highlight the active role that AAUW women have played in the history of the state. This is especially significant now because in 2010, Washington will celebrate the centennial of women's suffrage in the state.  As these women's history projects evolve, they will be listed here.
