KIDNEY DISEASE-IT’S A MATTER OF THE HEART

Did you know that one of the most important things you can do for the heart health of your family and yourself is to learn about kidney disease?  That’s because people with kidney disease are at extremely high risk for cardiovascular problems.  Come learn about the heart-kidney connection.

Joyce Jackson, President and CEO of the non-profit Northwest Kidney Centers will share information about the epidemic of silent, but deadly kidney disease in this country and explain who is at greatest risk.  She’ll provide tips on prevention, early detection and ways to slow kidney disease.  Many major advances in kidney research and treatment were developed in this region at the University of Washington and the Northwest Kidney Centers, which was the first dialysis program in the world and currently serves thousands of people in the region who have kidney failure and need special services.  Ms Jackson will explain how dialysis “adds birthdays” and why organ donation is the ultimate philanthropic gift.

Joyce Jackson is a health care administrator with over twenty-five years of professional experience in this community.  She spent fifteen years as administrator at Virginia Mason Medical Center and has been CEO of the Northwest Kidney Centers for the past nine years.  Ms. Jackson is an active volunteer on community boards, and currently serves as a Trustee of Horizon House, a Seattle continuing care retirement community
