October 27, Saturday at the
Issaquah Library at 10 West Sunset Way at 10:30am. Come find out how
many residents of Tent City 4 in Issaquah have found work and are

kind of support do they receive? Scott from the Seattle Housing and
Resource Effort will inform us how tent cities started and how can homelessness
end. We will also hear from a resident of Tent City 4 share their story
and insights. We look forward to seeing you then.

EXPANDING YOUR HORIZONS
MARCH 29, 2008
The program team and the Board of the branch have chosen to use the
March meeting time to "walk our walk and not to just talk our talk"
Our branch will lead the eastside branches of AAUW in conducting the middle
school session of Expanding Your Horizons (EYH), on Saturday morning, March 29,
at Bellevue Community College. Four to
five hundred middle school girls attend sessions taught by women professionals
in the fields of science, technology, engineering and mathematics.
EYH's have been held across the country for more than
30 years to encourage girls to stay connected to these fields of
study. Our presenters keep the girls engaged in hands on activities
during three short sessions of study on this day. The sixth, seventh and
eight grade girls come from across the area but mainly we serve Issaquah, Lake
Washington, Shoreline, Renton, and Bellevue public and private schools.
EYH is "the spot" to concentrate our efforts as a way to
keep us visible in the community, keep girls interested in Science, Technology,
Engineering and Math (STEM) and also, as a way to help level the playing field
when it comes to salary equity. This conference is a fun morning of
many types of volunteer opportunities and we need about 60 volunteers. So, please
save this date of March 29, 2008 for the middle school EYH conference in
its 26th year!
FYI - the high school conference is March
26, 2008.
April 17. Thursday

School for homeless children in Seattle,
where one of our members teaches. Place

Park and enjoy catered box lunches, hopefully at the Mansion.
July 29. BBQ potluck at Beaver Lake
