General Meetings are held the second Saturday of each month at 10:00 at various locations on the island. Meetings time, locations and topics are published in the Branch Directory, in the Branch Newsletter and local media publications. The public is invited to all general meetings and special events.

Board Meetings are held the first Wednesday of September, October, November, January, March, and May. A Leadership Summit is held each summer in July or August. Special Board meetings may be scheduled should branch business so demand.

Education & Equity


AAUW Scholars Recognition Program:  The branch recognizes three juniors from each of the three island high schools as outstanding scholars in math, science and technology. Each of the nine scholars is presented with a certificate and a monetary stipend of $100.00.

AAUW Whidbey Island Scholarship to be awarded to one woman of Whidbey Island origin graduating from Skagit Valley College who is pursing continued education at a 4 year college or university in the amount of $1,000.

AAUW Whidbey Island Scholarships (Grants) to be awarded to one girl graduating from each of the three island high schools in the amount of $1,500.

Susan Blank Memorial Scholarship to be awarded to a girl graduating from one of the high schools on Whidbey Island, in the amount of $1000.  She must be pursuing a visual arts major in a 4 year college, University or Art School.

Dale M. Fisher Scholarship to be awarded to a girl graduating from Coupeville High School in the amount of $600. She must be pursuing an arts major in a 4 year college, university or art school.

Women in History: presentations for public, private, and home schooled elementary school students each March.

Tutoring and Mentoring the branch has established liaisons with local schools and the Oak Harbor Boys and Girls Club through which members volunteer.

Contributions


AAUW Educational Opportunities Fund raised through special events, an annual Gala Non-event and crafts sold by the Quilters Special Interest Group

AAUW Eleanor Roosevelt Fund

AAUW Legal Advocacy Fund raised through an annual yard sale and special collections by the Gourmet I Special Interest Group.

February 27
Membership Coffee - The public is invited to learn how they might help young women attain their goals and aspirations through higher education and how they might participate in interesting projects and social activities as members of AAUW.  Call  360-240-1326 or email mimtu@aol.com for directions.

March 25
   
Spring Fashion Show - Whidbey Golf and Country Club, Oak Harbor. Proceeds fund educational support and scholarships for young women of Whidbey. Tickets for individuals or tables are available from Marti Thomson at martithomson@yahoo.com or whidbeyisland@aauw-wa.org.
 
April 13      
Scholar Recognition Reception - Methodist Church, Coupeville.  Whidbey high school women are recognized for excellence in math, the sciences and math.

May 8         
Showcase for the Arts - Coupeville Recreation Hall, Coupeville.  Whidbey Island high school art students’ work is displayed. Awards are presented in four categories.f

May 29         
Annual Yard Sale - Rolling Hills Community Center, Oak Harbor.  Proceeds support equity for women in the workplace and in education.

August 21    
Dream Kitchen Tour - Self-directed tour of unique kitchens in private homes around the island.  Proceeds fund educational support and scholarships for young women of Whidbey. Tickets will be available from numbers of outlets on the island beginning August 1, 2010.

Book Group I meets first Monday morning of each month at a member's home
Book Group II, "Joie des Livres", meets third Wednesday afternoon of each month at members' homes
Book Group III meets fourth Wednesday morning of each month at the Coupeville Library
Book Group for Guys
meets the first Thursday of each month at members' homes or a local restaurant
Cultural Affairs Group contacted when event occurs
Gardening Group meets first Tuesday of each month
Gourmet 1 meets the fourth Thursday of each month except Nov/Dec at members' homes
Gourmet II, "Baker's Dozen", meets the first Friday of each month at members' homes
Gourmet III, "The International Gourmet", meets the fourth Friday of each month at members' homes
International Affairs meets third Friday September through June at the Coupeville library
Out-to-Lunch Bunch meets fourth Wednesday of each month
Quilting Group meets the third Wednesday of each month at members' homes
Second Thursday Supper Group includes (but does not require) spouses/partners
